As an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, lay people can serve the Catholic Church by distributing Holy Communion during Mass. An Extraordinary Minister must be fully initiated as a member of the Church (having received the Sacrament of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation) This ministry is extremely spiritual and personally fulfilling. Training is provided.
Adults and teenagers proclaim the Scripture readings and pray the General Intercessions during Mass. There are two lectors for each Mass. There are workbooks available which serve as a guide through the scriptual passages and indicate pauses and pronunciation, phrasing and speed.
This team helps to plan for the various liturgical season fo Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time and is made up of coordinators of the various liturgical ministries and representatives of the parish.
These individuals help prepare the church for Mass in order to provide a welcoming environment, and assist the presider as needed.
It is the duty of the ushers to arrive 20 minutes prior to Mass to make certain that the worship area is prepared for the arrival of the assembly, lead them to their placess, direct processions, take up collecitions and provide other assistance as needed.
Welcome people as they come to church and provide general assistance to visitors. Welcomers look for a family or individuals to bring up the gifts during the offertory and serve at a particular Mass on rotation with other team members from the same Mass. Families and friends are encouraged to work together.
